The Challenge
The LH North site is meant to act as a portfolio of work which could then be shared with prospective clients, so it was important to maintain a level of professionalism and also highlight the work that LH North has done throughout the years. In its previous form, the website was not compliant with Ontario's new web accessibility laws, and it wasn't serving the target audience with what it wanted, which was a detailed gallery of the work, and information about the services and products offered.
The Goal
The main goal of this project was to create a new and updated website design that was loosely based on an old brand system. Ultimately a brand update was made along with the new website. The main requirement of the website was that it had to meet WCAG and AODA standards, making it a AA Accessible site. The aim was to make the new site modern and fresh, while ensuring the company was represented as a key player in the construction and crane market.
Discovery & Research
Before the design process began, I conducted user interviews with various staff and clients of the company in order to understand if there were further issues with the site beyond the WCAG compliancy. I found that not a lot of people went to the site, because it didn't have much to offer to clients and employees. With employees, we discussed ways to engage people on the site and gain new clientele. With clients, we discussed how we can make the site more engaging for them, and what they would like to see.
