This book design was completed in the last year of my studies at the University of Alberta. I was drawn to the work of Hunter S Thompson for inspiration for this book set, as his writing style is based on the experiences of the author, who takes on the role of purposefully living a lifestyle of another context to gain a richer perspective.
With book design, the style must be consistent with the book contents, while not revealing the plot. The designs for this book set were intentionally for the modern and nostalgic audience, through typography as well as illustration. The illustrations were drawn by hand and then rendered in such a way that would visually describe the chaotic adventures within the pages.
